Item | # 0002247543 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Athleta studeri - RARE FORM / LOCALITY , (Von Martens, 1897) |
Size | 44.4 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A large and superb specimen of this deep-water, trawled endemic north-eastern Australian species, of a form from a very seldom offered locality. More subtle and beautiful in colour than typical Queensland examples, with background hues of peach, a distinct pattern of axial flames in yellowish straw, and a pale lavender protoconch. Rare quality. Fine spiral sculpture readily discernible. Mammillate protoconch intact. The ONLY specimen I have ever had from this locality. Size: 44.4 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Iluka, New South Wales, Australia; upon sand substrate; 60-120 m; trawled; 1991. |
