Note | 200 mm, Posiet Bay, Sea of Japan, One out of thousands shells self collected during my over 40 years of shell diving world wide. Nice, big, heavy and very attractive specially selected shell. Real giant - 200mm. Weight is 479 grams. Upper valve has very rich color variations. Bottom valve has beautiful ivory/rusty coloration. This shell is not aqua cultured at first stage of life cycle, but naturally grown at big depth were drilling sponges are still limiting factor for scallops. Shell is about 17-18 years old. That is why a few drills are visible on upper valve. Scootering with NITROX SCUBA to cover big distance at depth 30-35 meters. F++. Self collected in Posiet Bay, south off Vladivostok, 30 km. from North Korean border. 2015 |
