Item | # 0002219930 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Amoria guttata - ULTRA-BIG; SUPERB , McMichael, 1964 |
Size | 56.5 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | True Amoria guttata, (exhiting characteristic spots and dashes, as opposed to axial lines), is a far rarer species than the closely related A. lineola, and the majority of specimens offered as guttata are, in fact, actually lineola. The current specimen of true guttata is exceedingly large for the species, and of superb quality, especially with regards preservation of the ultra-delicate siphonal canal, almost always lost to trawl damage. A couple of typical lines of growth. Exquisite, well-formed pattern. A product of the legendary 1980s Queensland trawls, and now obtainable only from choice old collections. Size: 56.5 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Townsville, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 80-100 m; trawled; 1986. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
