Item | # 0002205223 | Family | Cassidae | Name | Echinophoria kurodai - BIG; SUPERB; AUST.; 2018 , Abbott, R.T., 1968 |
Size | 70.3 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | Specimens of the Australian form, (the most beautiful incarnation of the species), were first collected during the legendary 1980s trawls off the atolls of Rowley Shoals, off the North-Western coast, and were not readily available for thirty plus years, until a new population was discovered early last year, when deep-water trawling was undertaken off a more southerly area of the Western Australian coast. Specimens from this new population exhibit incredible colours, (richer than those from the 1980s locality), and the current specimen was selected by myself as being amongst the BEST of those collected. Particularly well-developed nodes. Fully mature, ‘rolled’ and glossed outer apertural lip. Typical minor trawl loss to siphonal canal. Size: 70.3 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Carnarvon, Western Australia, Australia; upon mud/sand/rubble substrate; 400-600 m; trawled; January 2018. |
