Item | # 0002201102 | Family | Buccinidae | Name | Acamptochetus inflatus - RARE , Houbrick, 1984 |
Size | 49.7 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | The original specimens of this rare deep-water species, upon which its description was based, were collected by the R.V. Albatross in the waters of the Philippines. It was subsequently discovered to extend to the deep waters off the northern Western Australian coast, via the legendary 1980s trawls off the atolls of Rowley Shoals. Specimens from the latter locality have never been available since, and are now obtainable only from choice old collections. Restricted typical trawl loss to anterior, but otherwise exemplary. Ultra-fine, file-like sculpture readily discernible. Fully mature outer apertural lip. Definitely for the Buccinidae specialist. Size: 49.7 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Off Rowley Shoals, Western Australia, Australia; upon mud/sand/detritus substrate; 300-500 m; trawled; 1983. |
