Note | An extremely large specimen of this highly coveted deep-water species. A product of the legendary 1970s Taiwanese trawling operations conducted off the north-western coast of Australia, and only obtainable from old collections ever since. Z. j. aurata seems to present two relatively distinct varieties, one being angulate, solid and heavy, the other being ovate, inflated and of lighter weight. The current specimen is of the latter type. Markedly inflated, relatively light weight, but with pronounced mature dorsal ridging. Pale straw maculae across a white dorsum, with subtle background hue of peach. Size: 84 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Off north-western coast of Western Australia, Australia; upon mud/sand substrate; 200-400 m; 1970s. |
