Note | The absolute 'top of the line' for a Stansbury 'black' specimen. Virtually black dorsum, punctuated only by sporadic accents of golden honey to magnificent aesthetic effect. Perfection. It is not generally appreciated by most collectors just how supremely difficult it is to obtain a Stansbury 'black' at this level of perfection. Virtually every specimen which was ever collected exhibited some degree of sand abrasion, growth or predatory damage, or minor nacre imperfections. Now obtainable only from choice old collections. The BEST of the best for the Zoila connoisseur. Size: 64.2 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Stansbury, Yorke Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon sand/rubble/sponge substrate, upon sponge; 8 m; dived; 1986. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
