Item | # 0002178292 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Umbilia hesitata - RARE COLOUR FORM , Iredale, 1916 |
Size | 98.4 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | A superb specimen of the heavy, much coveted, extreme southern form. Incredible rich caramel dorsum. Although typically with heavy sand/mud inclusions and serious trawl damage, the current specimen has virtually none of these flaws, exhibiting a near pristine dorsum, and with only the most restricted trawl loss to one side of the anterior canal. The specimen exhibits the great weight to size ratio and marked ventral callosity characteristic of examples from the Southern range limit of the species. Meticulously curated, with the appearance of having been collected this year. Now obtainable only from choice old collections. For the Umbilia specialist. Size: 98.4 mm (length). Grading: F++. Data: Off King Island, New Year Group, Tasmania, Australia; upon mud/sand/detritus substrate; 160-240 m; trawled; 1981. |
