NameZoila venusta venusta - ULTRA RARE NORTH FORM. , (Sowerby II, 1846)
Size83.9 mm
LocalityGeraldton, Central W.Australia.
NoteOn offer is the most RARE form of venusta in the zoila genus, being the venusta venusta form from Central Australia, the most ULTRA RARE and most Northern form of venusta found. At a reasonable guess, I would think fewer than 20 specimens would exist. The characteristic I love the most of this form is not just the enormous size they occur but the unque soft purple skunk line that appears on some of these specimens. This is a rather unique specimen in that it was one of the few trawled specimen which ended up in the late Peter Clarkson's collection, for the simiple fact that he never found one diving himself at that time. It cames with the provenance of being in the very early collection of Ted Gurr, then Dr Martin Hiscock's collection, then Marty Beals collection before Peter prised it out of him. It has the original Peter Clarkson labal with all details including the above provenance. Graded FINE+++ with a raised ridge running along the columellar margin up to the heart of the protoconch. This is not a brake but a raised step growth adnormally. It is such a heavy gerontic specimen that a few stress lines above on the base. Trawled in 32 fathoms on coral bottom, November 1972 by the fishing vessel "Iris" skippered by Dave Shannon. A real Conchological Treasure with great provenance and because it is a specie that is AMAZINGLY RARE. Commencing at what I consider a minimal price for this rarity.
