Item | # 0002173572 | Family | Muricidae | Name | Chicoreus cornucervi - SUPERB SPINES, BLACK , (Röding, P.F., 1798) |
Size | 117.1 mm, w/o |
Locality | Cape Leveque, Broome, N.W. Aust. |
Note | A wonderful BLACK specimen of Ch. cornucervi. In fact I have seen very few that have this black colour intensity thoughout the entire specimen. Normally the body swirls are lighter in colour than the fronds and this colour intensity fades to an even lighter brown throughout the body swirls up to the spire. At 117mm it is not small and its presentation is amazing with a small body with beautiful extended spines. In addition it has a host worm tube, dark in colour, something I could have removed but its intricate tight body swirls that run for a few centimetres before raising up its aperture was just too nice to remove. Graded GEM- with a small growthline its only small fault as its fronds are complete, a rare occurrence in this specie. I consider one of the nices specimens I have seen when taking everything into account. Intertidal collected on reef and mud bottom, Cape Leveque, Broome, N.W. Australia. |
