Size | 151.46 mm |
Locality | Australia |
Note | This truly incredible specimen, from the 'old days' of South Australian trawling, exceeds the current official World Record Size by over 20 mm! (Information verified at wrs-shells.com upon 26 March 2019). Exemplary state of preservation for such an old age giant, deep-water trawled shell with delicate edges. Expertly cleaned, with only very minor encrustation to obverse valve. Micro erosion and typical trawl fraying to outer edges, left in their natural state with no artificial smoothing. Exquisite lavender and yellow to exterior, with rich purplish burgundy interior. The flatter reverse valve is always smaller in this species, and fits into the concave obverse valve, with the interior margin of the latter being visible. Definitely for the Pectinidae specialist or collector of WRS, 'wow factor' shells. Size: * mm (longest dimension). Grading: F++. Data: Eyre Peninsula, South Australia, Australia; upon sand/mud/rubble substrate; 100-300 m; trawled; 1980. |
