Item | # 0002162358 | Family | Muricidae | Name | Chicoreus cornucervi - ULTRA RARE ORANGE FORM. , (Röding, P.F., 1798) |
Size | 115.1 mm, w/o |
Locality | Shellborough, N.W. Australia. |
Note | SO UNIQUE, SO RARE, SO SPECIAL. What can I say about this ULTRA RARE ORANGE COLOUR FORM of M. cornucervi. I have only ever seen a couple of these in my 55+ years of collecting, but nothing to match this one. I also believe few murex collectors in the world have ever seen one. The rich orange colour of the aperture has softened to a lovely pastel orange throughout the entire shell and intensifying again inside each body frond. Any black spotting on the images in only true colour, not faults. Imaged against a white specimen for comparison. Graded FINE+++ with a few fronds with typical damage. At 115mm it is by no means a small specimen either. Intertidal collected on mud/sand and rubble, Dampier, N.W. Australia. IMAGES SAY IT ALL. |
