Note | A superb specimen of the dark Australian form of this rare and little known Latirus. Previously known as Dolicholatirus angustus (Smith, E.A., 1884), the species was recently renamed by Snyder for reasons of taxonomic legality. Ultra-dark ochre-caramel, with chocolate termination to siphonal canal. Ultra-clean, with no encrustation or erosion. Mammillate protoconch intact. Definitely for the Fasciolariidae specialist. Size: 41 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Cooktown, Queensland, Australia; upon sand/coral rubble/detritus substrate amongst reef; 2-4 m; dived; 1988. |
