Item | # 0002157551 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila decipiens decipiens - HUGE, TAIWANESE TRAWLED. , (Smith, 1880) |
Size | 61.9 mm |
Locality | Kimberly Coast, N.W. Australia. |
Note | On offer at nearly 62mm is a beautiful example of the VERY RARE Taiwanese trawled specimen of decipiens from the late 1960's early 1970's. They dwarf the normal Broome decipiens population, hence my comparisons with the dorsal and base views in my images. This shell is quite striking with it lovely white dorsal background colour with uniform latitudinal lines of spotting across the dorsum. VERY VERY RARE today, only from old collections and then rarely parted with. Graded GEM on the original label, but I have graded GEM- with a soft dorsal growth step. Taiwanese trawled off the Kimberly Coast, N.W. Australia. One not to miss and commonly taken for granted, but they are extremely rare and valuable. |
