| Note | ROLLS-ROYCE OF MAPPAS...........A jewel of unsurpassed beauty and one of the most desired of all cypraea. Almost never offered and only available from old collections. 95% solid JET BLACK with just a sliver of bronze. Highest level of melanism, i.e. it is not possible to see the pattern anywhere in the jet-black area (images taken in brightest sunshine to demonstrate highest grade of melanism - in the overhead image, anything you imagine you see between the narrow sliver of bronze and jet-black are reflections and backscatterings only, due to the vagaries of photography and bright sunshine). Thick and completely spotless base and lower margins, much loved for the milky/ivoirine/opaqueness effect and pink/orange tints, and further testament to the highest level of melanism. Advanced rostration. Glassy with a superior gloss. The best I have had and a prize in any collection. Curated lovingly, and as if just taken from the water. At a very generous start price. Specimens of top grade and absolute best melanism and rostration, like this masterpiece, can fetch more than twice the start. An investment as values only continue to soar. Grade: Gem/Gem-.
