CABESTANA SPENGLERI: A giant specimen from the very 'old days' of collecting. Hypermature, with greatly thickened shell walls, and great weight to size ratio. Typical erosion to early whorls, almost always present upon old age specimens. Fully mature, markedly thickened, flaring outer apertural lip. Now very difficult to obtain at this size. Size: 155.6 mm (length). Grading: Fine+; w/o. Data: Dunalley, Tasmania, Australia; upon rock reef substrate, in crevice under ledge, amongst seaweed, at extreme low tide; 1972. |
