Note | SPECIAL SALE - PART 8: Part eight of my current special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. CYPRAEA COXENI HYPERCALLOSA: THIS is the type of shell meant by Raybaudi when he described hypercallosa. Marginal callosity so dense and high as to encroach substantially upon the dorsum. The dorsal pattern is also quite distinctive, being irregular, fragmented and mottled, and with a particular yellowish-honey ground. Very few true hypercallosa occur in relation to the typical form. Now only from old collections. Size: 17.9 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Auki, Malaita, Malaita Province, Solomon Islands; upon coral sand/rubble, under coral slab; 3 m; dived; 1979. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
