Note | SPECIAL SALE - PART 8: Part eight of my current special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. UMBILIA ARMENIACA: Unquestionably one of the BEST armeniaca I have ever seen with regards dorsal pattern: expansive area of golden yellow-orange to labral side, delineated by a sigmoidal border towards dorsal centre; yellowish cream ground to central area; expansive free-form maculations of golden ochre to columellar side - all to striking aesthetic effect. Hypermature, with pronounced dorsal ridging. Meticulously curated, with the appearance of having been collected this year. A favourite armeniaca within my private collection, to be passed now to an Umbilia connoisseur. Size: 94.2 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Great Australian Bight, South Australia, Australia; upon sand substrate; trawled; 200-300 m; 2003. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
