| Note | SPECIAL SALE - PART 8: Part eight of my current special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. ZOILA THERSITES CONTRARIA: This utterly unique and striking specimen is undoubtedly one of the BEST and most important examples of contraria known. The deep-water form is occasionally seen with sporadic, irregular axial streaks, but never have I seen another specimen in which these streaks are so prominent, broad, regular and well-formed; in which their colour is so magnificent; and in which they dominate the dorsum to such an extent, as in the current example. Dorsum completely free of maculae, leaving only the axial streaks to constitute its pattern. Unbelievably beautiful ultra-rich caramel-tan in lighter and deeper shades across entire dorsum, (no pale ground visible, as in most examples). In addition to its spectacular dorsum, the ventrum is also outstanding: hypermature, ultra-dense deposition of shell material, creating heavy ventral callosity in ivory and orangish cream, with a spectacular central area of ultra-dark ginger encircled with blue upon the columellar side. Ivory margins, with distinct, narrow blue register upon columellar side. Great weight to size ratio. It is not often that such an extremely high value shell is offered unreserved for collectors to create their own price. A favourite shell within my private collection of thersites variants, now to be passed only to another connoisseur of the world's very BEST seashells. Size: 70 mm (length). Grading: F++++.
