Note | SPECIAL SALE - PART 8: Part eight of my current special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. CHICOREUS CORRUGATUS: This exquisite murex most probably represents an extremely rare colour form of C. corrugatus in its short-spined incarnation: beautiful, subtle lemon yellow, with peach and orange accents, and pink apex. However, it may possibly represent C. corrugatus ethiopius (Vokes, 1978), or even a new variety, subspecies, or species. This is the ONLY specimen I have ever seen of this species exhibiting these particular colours, and I can find no colour form equivalent in the literature. I leave it to the advanced Muricidae specialist to determine its ultimate taxonomic placement. Size: 39.5 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Red Sea; upon reef substrate; 22 m; dived; 1981. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
