Item | # 0002111880 | Family | Cypraeidae | Name | Zoila marginata albanyensis f. nimbosa - HUGE, ROSTRATE, RARE. , (Raybaudi, 1994) |
Size | 74.1 mm |
Locality | Esperance, S.W. Australia. |
Note | Rarely do we see specimens of marginata albanyensis nimbosa this extreme size. At 74.1mm it is only 3mm less than the recorded WORLD RECORD SIZE. This specimen has reached this size due to noticeable ROSTRATION. Both canals are well extended and the base edges of both the anterior end particularly and the posterior end is hugely grown, rounded down making an extremely convex base as with most rostrate cypraea. The canals base edges are so much grown down that you can see under the raised middle of this specimen. Rostration is particularly rare in any Zoila. Referred to as nimbosa due to a few coloured spots on the columellar dorsum just above the margins. Grade F++/F+++ with a typical soft growthline with this species. Adding to this most RARE, ROSTRATE specimen is it provenance, coming from the late Peter Clarkson Collection with his own hand written full data label. |
