Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 6: Part six of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. PTERYNOTUS ACANTHOPTERUS: Rarely can we assign a truly Gem grading to a reef-dwelling murex species, but such is the case with the current large and magnificent specimen of this north-western Australian species - one of the BEST specimens I have ever seen. It is not only of rare perfection, but also of particularly elegant form. Exceptional preservation of the ultra-delicate 'frills' of the varices. (The indentations are part of the varical structure, not damage.) Mammillate protoconch intact. One of Australia's most beautiful seashells when seen in this rare quality. Size: 78.7 mm (length). Grading: Gem. Data: Off Dampier, Western Australia; Australia; upon sand/mud/reef substrate at extreme seasonal low tide; 1981. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
