Item | # 0002103495 | Family | Volutidae | Name | Amoria lineata lineata - unusual form , (Leach, 1814) |
Size | 32.7 mm |
Locality | Qld., Australia |
Note | This is the form "lineata" which differs from typical A. zebra because it has a nodulose shoulder and early whorls. There is most likely a good case that this shell might be a distinct species. All I've seen are similar to this one and have a less bulbous shape than typical "zebra" and are this golden tan in color. Why is this type, which has no lined pattern is called lineata may be a result of an error in Leach's work. The shell is of typical size for this form and it has a thin scar on its' ventrl side that blends into the background color. |
