Item | # 0002103411 | Family | Muricidae | Name | Pteropurpura bequaerti - deep water rarity , Clench & P. Farfante, 1945 |
Size | 31.6 mm, w/o |
Locality | Dry Tortugas, FL |
Note | This shell is one among the many dredged by Riley Black in the late 1970s and eighties. All of these shells have now pretty much disappeared into collections, and today it is no longer allowed to dredge in this part of Florida. This specimen is in relatively nice condition, but as usual, it has some chips on the delicate edges of its varicies, and on the tip of main varix, and it has a chip on its siphonal canal. The size is about the middle of the size range for this species. |
