Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 6: Part six of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. FUSINUS NOVAEHOLLANDIAE: Generally considered a south-eastern Australian endemic species, this species was discovered, in very limited numbers, in a far northern population during the legendary 1980s Queenland trawls. The shells of this far northern population are more slender, elongate and colourful than those from the South. The current specimen, (the only I have to offer of this far northern form), is of particular interest and beauty, as it exhibits an atypical raised spiral band of white at the whorl periphery. Now obtainable only from old collections. Undoubtedly lacking in virtually all collections, and definitely for the Fasciolariidae specialist. Size: 172.7 mm (length). Grading: F+++; w/o. Data: Off Cape Moreton, Queensland, Australia; upon sand substrate; 60-120 m; trawled; 1983. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
