Item | # 0002100025 |
Family | Cypraeidae |
Name | Zoila friendii - "Deep Water" !!! , Gray, 1831 |
Size | 64.5 mm |
Locality | Margaret River, WA |
Note | Another shell from what I call the hybrid zone. The shell was collected in April 2018 in 128 metres of water west of Margaret River. Collecting friendii here is really like Mrs Gump's box of chocolates. No two shells are alike and you never know what you will find. This is a dead collected shell that has had coral algae removed to reveal a stunning specimen. It has the classic shape of the friendii found in shallow water in Geographe Bay. It has the rounded base typical of deep water friendii, a hint of tan on a white base and magic lateral spotting. The dorsum has nacre loss and exhibits the classic friendii embryonic banding. It is a different and striking shell. DEAD COLLECTED SHELL. |
