Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 6: Part six of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. ZOILA FRIENDI: This magnificent specimen, virtually touching the 100 mm mark, is of the markedly slender and elongate form which inhabits the waters around the tiny, 19 hectare Carnac Island. The specimen exhibits a truly spectacular dorsal pattern, in ultra-dark colours. A few typical, fully glossed sand grains, as very often occurs in this form, but insignificant when measured against the fact that this is one the largest and best specimens of the Carnac Island form I have seen. The island is now an A-class nature reserve, and no fresh specimens will ever be available in future. An opportuinity for the Zoila specialist to obtain an extremely large and impressive example of this form. Size: 99.4 mm (length). Grading: F+++. Data: Cockburn Sound, off Carnac Island, 10 km West of Fremantle, Western Australia, Australia; upon sponge, upon limestone reef substrate; 12 m; dived; 1986. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
