Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. AMORIA DAMPIERIA: The parter of the specimen sold in the previous auction, and the last dampieria I have to offer. A superb example of this diminutive, endemic western Australian volute. The species is seldom found without some damage, and few specimens attain the near perfection of the current example. Perfectly formed pattern. Fully mature, greatly thickened outer apertural lip. Solid for size. Its locality, Weld Island, (only around 48 hectares in size), is now a nature reserve, and no fresh specimens will be available in future. Now only obtainable from old collections. Size: 28 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Weld Island. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
