Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. CYPRAEA CERVUS: An outstanding, ultra-large specimen from the very 'old days' of Florida availability. Exceptional preservation of the ultra-delicate flanges to the anterior canal, almost always damaged to some extent, yet perfect in the current example. Supremely well-formed pattern. Ultra-rich colour, completely stable after nearly half a century of careful curation. Magnificent vivid lavender apertural interior. As the Cypraeidae specialist will know, these giant-sized, lightweight shells are prone to many growth irregularities and poor deposition of pattern. Very few specimens attain the quality of the current example. Always rare like this, even in the past, but now exceedingly difficult to obtain, coming only from old collections. The ancient original 1965 label from an unidentified US collection accompanies the specimen. Size: 117.5 mm (length). Grading: Gem.
