Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 4: Part four of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. PTERYNOTUS PELLUCIDUS: The largest and BEST specimen I have ever handled of this beautiful species, from the 'old days' of collecting. Few specimens attain such maturity in conjunction with such exemplary quality as the current specimen. Exceptional level of preservation of the delicate varices: perfection upon the markedly expansive principal varix. Minute protoconch intact. Ultra-clean. Ultra-fine sculpture readily discernible. The specimen is also of the elegant and rarely offered Japanese form. A standout example for the Muricidae specialist, or admirer of truly exquisite seashells. Size: 41.3 mm (length). Grading: F++++; w/o. Data: Off Onna, Okinawa, Japan; upon coral rubble substrate, at night; 12 m; dived; 1984. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
