Note | EXTRA SPECIAL SALE - PART 4: Part four of my extra special sales comprised entirely of exceptional specimens from my private collection, representing highlights of my collecting and dealing career. Another opportunity to acquire outstanding and unique seashells from one of the world’s pre-eminent collections. UMBILIA HESITATA: An extremely large specimen of a rare colour form, from the 'old days' of collecting. This specimen is intermediate with howelli, with the colour of its dorsal markings being reduced to exceedingly pale straw across a pure white ground. This is the only specimen I have ever had exhibiting this particular colour. Well-curated over the decades, with completely fresh appearance. For the Umbilia specialist. Size: 101.8 mm (length). Grading: F++++. Data: Off Eden, New South Wales, Australia; upon mud/sand substrate; 120-160 m; trawled; 1983. Provenance: JES private collection; Melbourne/London. |
