NoteOne of the BEST specimens I have ever encountered of this singular, striking, endemic Vietnamese species. Extremely large size. Atypically elevated spire. Ultra-rich colour: broad spiral bands of dark chocolate and tan, with an additional, atypical ultra-fine spiral band of dark caramel. Completely NATURAL apertural lip, with no typical artificial smoothing – very important for the landsnail specialist. NOTE: The species was believed to be extinct, until rediscovered in southern Vietnam in 2012. Although extant within a restricted region, a variety of threats to its habitat has diminished the population, although several captive breeding programs are underway. (See New Scientist 30 April 2025.) Data: Da Lat region, Lâm Dong province, Vietnam; in highlands rainforest, at 1500 MAMSL, upon primitive pine trunk, at night; July 2015. Size: 72.1 mm (longest dimension). Grading: Fine++. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
