NoteThis EXCEPTIONAL very large specimen – one of the BEST from the very early days of Zoila diving – exhibits an elegance of form possessed by exceedingly few examples, being markedly slender, greatly tapered towards the anterior, and with markedly upturned terminals, creating the classic ‘gondola’ form. Extremely rich colour, in conjunction with a dense, well-formed dorsal pattern of high aesthetic merit. Hypermature, with pronounced marginal and ventral callosity, and porcellaneous white interior terminal walls. The specimen was one of the earliest collected by legendary Australian Zoila diver Andrew Edinger, and the original 1980 Edinger label accompanies the specimen. An outstanding friendi, with impeccable provenance. Data: Off western coast of Carnac Island, Perth Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon limestone reef substrate, upon sponge; 10 m; dived; 1980. Size: 80.1 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
