Pair of F++ shells. The status of these Atlantic spurca (subspecies, form or subfossil) is debated. Almost all specimens of this light-color variety are offered by fishermen using bottom nets in deep water (80-100 mt and more) off the NW Atlantic coasts (Morocco, Western Sahara) and off-coast islands (Canary, Cabo Verde) - although similar shells are reported from the south west Mediterranean coasts: Sicily, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia. I bought this pair in a gift shop in Fuerteventura, back in 1992. I believe the larger shell is not far from the maximum size for the form.
