NoteThis is a common species throughout its range, however not easy to spot on site underwater due to the perfect camouflage of the animal mantle with the surrounding algae-dominated habitat. Nowadays specimens of spurca from the Mediterranean are available only from old collections: the species is protected in most European countries by the conventions of Berna and Barcelona, and vigilance is implemented more than it would be expected. Large shells are scarce. Spurca is favorite food for Octopus vulgaris: pretty specimens of gem-like appearance but with the typical small predation hole on the posterior columellar side of the base are common. This shell is a hair below 35 mm, mature, with beautiful homogeneous dark honey pattern, and gem. Full information will be provided.
