Note

Elegant dorsal blotch and a lavender blue halo accentuate this specimen beauty from the west coast of Australia. A collectors prize specimen by color quality/intensity/contrast and form alone. The dorsal pattern shows a unique distribution of large black maculae/spots that leave a wide honey/amber brown and unusual longitudinal color band. The shell is highlighted by a deep lustrous nacre, sharp contoured extremities, thick extremity margins, strong weight/size ratio and beautiful spotting on both cream apricot lateral walls (45.5 grams). The extremity tips are pigmented with chocolate brown and fringed with pastel peach hues that is remarkable coloring for this subspecies. The specimen also displays a lustrous ink black/brown framed base tinting accentuated by well-developed aperture teeth. The praeclara was taken from a sponge nested on sand/rock substrate by a ROV at 85 meters, Zuytdorp Cliffs, Western Australia in 5/2023. The specimen exhibits a minuscule open sand grain inclusion visible on the large dorsal image at the top of the posterior ramp and a mini self-repaired shallow nacre chip on labral anterior tip. Grade: F++/F+++.
