AGREEABLE MELANISM & MALLEATION......ULTRA-RARE......Referred to over the years using various jargon, including niger & melanica, a magnificent example mostly jet-black with small patches of deep-bronze (akin to the very best zoila rosselli of N.W. WA). Dorsum boasts contours and malleation indicative of ultra-maturity, with those endearing black facets (like the finest niger mauritiana from New Caledonia) and evident in images. Extremely heavy, characteristic of this rare form. Glossy, like black Venetian Murano glass, and unsurpassed. Irreplaceable nowadays as the area taken is off limits and the handful taken are only from old advanced collections. An opportunity to acquire the best. Curated lovingly. A tiny inclusion, covered by the animal, stops it being gem, but I'm being picky in the scheme of things. Grade: Gem/Gem-. Provenance: from my own collection. Diver collected in 5-8m on sponge; off Stansbury, South Australia; July 2005.
