Having now collected jeaniana off Shark Bay for nearly twenty years we can see that the gold form “walkeri” fall into two colour forms. This fit’s well with an explanation we found in a Google Search as below: “Rufinistic (or “rufinism”) refers to a rare biological mutation in animals, particularly in sea snails like cowries, where the shell or body exhibits lighter, golden, or reddish-orange pigmentation instead of the usual dark or black colors. In shell collecting, these striking specimens are highly prized and are often discovered in specific regions like Western Australia, which is a hotbed for the rare Zoila genus of cowries. Because of their scarcity, they are frequently sought after by marine collectors.” We have decided to distinguish between them by referring to the lighter shells with pale apricot bases as the “honey Form” and shell with reddish-orange basal pigmentation as type walkeri. This specimen was collected from a geodia sponge in 120 metres of water west of Dirk Hartog Island during May 2026. It is graded Fine due to the an obvious growth disruption on the shells labial side. Even so it is a rare jeaniana form that if in gem condition would be priced north of 3,000 euro.
