NoteAn EXCEPTIONAL, ULTRA-LARGE, LIVE-COLLECTED specimen – the FINEST and LAST of the JES Collection – of this beautiful and elusive endemic southern Australian species. RARE QUALITY. The majority of the known specimens are dead-collected – varying in condition from fresh-dead, to very worn. Exceedingly few live-collected specimens are ever offered on the world market, with this scarcity being enhanced when retention of the ultra-delicate original operculum is concerned – very important for the connoisseur. A rare ‘BEST of the best’ example for the Epitoniidae specialist. Data: Cat Bay, Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia; upon rock reef substrate, in intertidal reef pool, under slab, amongst seaweed and algae, at extreme seasonal low tide; 1987. Size: 30.2 mm. Grading: Gem; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
