Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. Pozo Izquierdo (Arinaga); collected during a night dive, July 2024. Shell height 60 mm. GBIF-registered specimen. - | - Exceptional orange colour form of this rarely encountered Canary Islands endemic. The vast majority of specimens observed and illustrated to date are brownish to reddish-brown, whereas vivid orange specimens appear exceptionally uncommon, perhaps occurring at a ratio of approximately 1:45 or lower. Exterior bright orange to coral-orange, with scattered reddish maculations and faint pale growth zones. Sculpture well preserved throughout, with fine radiating striae clearly visible. - | - The shell is notably clean and free of encrustations, an unusual condition for this species and suggestive of careful post-collection cleaning by the diver. A few minute superficial micro-borings are present on the exterior surface; these are barely visible under close examination and do not penetrate the shell interior. Interior surfaces clean, lustrous, and well preserved. Auricles, shell margins, and overall outline remain intact. - | - Overall an outstanding institutional reference specimen and among the finest examples of Manupecten nolani reviewed, distinguished by its unusually intense orange coloration and exceptional state of preservation.
