Melo gajahmadai Dharma, 2023 is a newly described species of large sea snail, belonging to the Volutidae family, found in Indonesian waters, including the coast of Banyuwangi, East Java. Distinctive Characteristics: - Large size, shell length can reach around 265 mm or more. - Shell shape: Large, solid oval, dark brown with fine parallel lines. The upper shoulder has 3–5 distinctive pointed protuberances/protrusions, different from its relatives, such as Melo amphora, which have more curved and hollow spines. - Surface: Glossy, smooth, with a creamy to light orange interior, very wide. - Habitat: Lives on sandy or muddy bottoms, at depths of around 30 meters, found in the waters of East Java. - Status: This is a newly scientifically recognized species in 2023, distinguishing itself from other Melo species in Indonesia due to its unique morphology. This shell has high collectible value due to its unique shape and large size. (F+++)
