Notocypraea dissecta - RARE AND DEAD , Iredale,1931
Size
18.7 mm
Locality
Black Head Beach, Sydney. AU
Note
A decent representative specimen of the rarest of all Notocypraea. Absent from the vast majority of collections, even the most advanced Cypraea collections in the world. If you don't have one, this one may be as close as you'll ever get. The shell features the characteristic large fossula, the hallmark for this species. To our knowledge, this is only the second specimen of Notocypraea dissecta ever offered on the auction. The shell was dead collected. This specimen was found in the sand at Black Head Beach, North of Sydney by a knowledgeable beachcomber in 5/1976. The shell is completely intact, with a perfect dorsum, extremities and base. The shell shows excellent lateral wall and marginal spotting, with pigmented extremities and the advanced nacre loss. Grade: DECENT.
