Zoila friendi - EXTINCT DWARF POPULATION , Gray, 1834
Size
48.3 mm
Locality
Australia
Note
A superb specimen from the now EXTINCT DWARF POPULATION which used to inhabit an extremely restricted region of Geographe Bay. It is believed that climatic changes to this limited region rendered this form extinct around two decades ago, and specimens are now obtainable only from old collections – usually choice Australian collections, specialised in Zoila. Hypermature at this diminutive size, with marked weight and solidity. A rare opportunity for an advanced Zoila specialist to obtain an outstanding specimen of this seldom offered form. Data: Geographe Bay, off Dunsborough, South-West Region, Western Australia, Australia; upon granite reef substrate; upon sponge; 3-4 m; dived; 1990. Size: 48.3 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
