NoteAn OUTSTANDING ultra-large specimen of this EXTREME DEEP-WATER, endemic JAPANESE form, collected over half a century ago, during the very early days of Japanese deep-water trawling. RARE QUALITY. Now extremely difficult to obtain, coming only from choice old collections. An exquisite seashell when seen like this. Definitely for the Columbariidae specialist whose collection yet lacks a first-rate specimen of this elusive Japanese form. Data: Tosa-wan, off Kochi Prefecture, Shikoku, Japan; upon sand/rubble substrate; 300-400 m; trawled; 1976. Size: 74.6 mm. Grading: Gem. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
