To the west of Coral Bay and Shark Bay we occasionally find these barnacles laying on the bottom. We have identified them as Coronula diadema a barnacle that is found on Hump Back Whales. I believe that these a Antarctic species that cannot tolerate subtropical waters and are shed by whales when the shells die. The shell has a chip in its lip at the location indicated by the green arrow. We don't see many but every now and again we find a specimen laying on sand. A lost Traveler who has lost it's Ride !!!
