This SPECIAL COLOUR specimen was formerly in the reference collection formed by F.J. Springsteen, used in the preparation of his seminal book ‘Shells of the Philippines’, and is illustrated therein: p.221; pl.61; fig.6b, where the author refers to it as an ‘unusual yellowish orange colour form’. Springsteen was based in the Philippines whilst researching and producing the work, and, when he returned to Melbourne, he brought the majority of his reference collection with him. Springsteen was a personal friend, and the specimen served in the JES Collection as a memento of our friendship, and homage to his achievement. A piece of conchological history with important provenance, and a beautiful shell besides. Data: Off Catbalogan, Northern Samar, Samar, Philippines. Size: 41.3 mm. Grading: Fine++. Provenance: 1) Foster James Springsteen, Melbourne; 2) JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
