NoteAn OUTSTANDING ultra-large specimen of the rare PINK colour form – one of the FINEST specimens of the JES Collection, and one of the best I have ever encountered. As the Conidae specialist will know, the large South Australian form is typically prone to substantial damage, upon account of the delicacy of its shell, and its very rough habitat, and is typically beset with innumerable growth lines, disruptions, and erosion. The current specimen is a rare exception, exhibiting the most minimal of such phenomena, and a rare PERFECT fully mature apertural lip. Exquisite subtle colour: beautiful pastel pink and apricot, with reddish caramel markings. The specimen also comes from a rare locality, whence very few specimens were ever collected. Retention of original operculum. Not freshly collected for decades, and now obtainable only from choice old collections. Definitely for the Conidae specialist requiring a ‘top of the line’ example to compliment an advanced collection. Data: Off Langton Island, Sir Joseph Banks Group, Spencer Gulf, South Australia, Australia; upon reef substrate, amongst algae/rubble, under slab; 28 m; dived; 1984. Size: 81.8 mm. Grading: Fine++; w/o. Provenance: JES Collection; London / Melbourne.
