GIGANTIC SIZE, VERY DARK COLORATION, SUPERB APERTURE. An accumulation of pleasing features, not often seen combined. The Tutufa tenuigranosa is one of the larger Bursidae and lives in deep water. There are a few localities in the Philippines where huge numbers live together in the dark depths, as fishermen occasionally fished quantities with tangle nets in days gone by. The tenuigranosa is rare outside the Philippines: we know of only sporadic shells here and there and only a dozen pieces have been figured in popular literature, most of these in very poor condition indeed. Masterpiece for the display shelf, superb quality and rare size.
