MARYBELLAE: A RARE SHELL OF GREAT BEAUTY. There is no doubt that the shell shown here is a genuine marybellae. It arrived very dirty, and was cleaned under the microscope for over an hour. Much of the "lacy" outer layer was left intact, which somewhat fades the colors underneath. But this piece is definitely too valuable to go any further. The interior is a classic pale lemon yellow of great beauty. In the literature, all the specimens pictured are from Guam. This is a very special shell of which no other recent offering is known.
Guam. Luminao Reef. 70 ft. Under rocks. Circa 1995.
