Item | # 0003333682 |
Family | POLIPLACOPHORA |
Name | Chiton cumingsii - Very nice , Frembly, 1827 |
Size | 37 mm |
Locality | Caldera, northern Chile |
Note | One very nice and large specimen of Chiton cumingsii. This particular specimen was collected washed ashore in a rocky beach. It preserves all its scales and the girdle, and it is in very nice collection. Perhaps it was predated by a seagull (Larus dominicanus) which usually get and consume them. The specimen measures 37 mm curled, but if you detach the plates it should measure about 50 mm in length. |
